it has been a while since i deliberately search for a fruit-shop to have a feast.
so after dinner, a group of old friends and i hunt for the 'fruit-street bazaar' along geyland road.
the fruit in contention: what else, but the 'king of fruit', "DURIAN".
westerners loath the smell of this fruit, and the overbearing sweetness of the flesh.
as for me, i am a moderate....not too much, just a taste (and smell, or stench to some) of some it.

ps: i must caution you that eating too much of it may result in your wastes to smell like one too.

have a happy sunday!

:: a swollen left eye ::

the eye in scrutiny :)
i have been having this difficulty of blinking my left eye since Monday...and I neglected it until it swelled (sic?). the doctor said it could be due to some infection or heatiness due to the terrible hot weather lately. he assured me that it will go off by itself and advised that one should take care of his eyes by keeping it clean by
1) clearing off any dusts in the eyebrows
2) any trap dirt on the eye lashes.
3) cleanse the eye balls with eye washes.

a make-up artist solution for (1) trim the eyebrows (2) use mascara to curl up the lashes (3) eye shadows to give the 'lift' to the eyes....

so much for the eye....

:: festive moods @ geylang serai ::

::taken with Palm Zire 71 - festive lights ::
::the cutest baby of the month::
In the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, every year, without fail, I will always end up at Geylang Serai (http://see.nourza.net/pasar/) - either willingly or otherwise.

This year, there is no exception.

At the invitation from my work associates, I ended up my evening (after work) soaking up the sights, smell and crowds of Geylang Serai.

For the uninitiated, Geylang Serai has always been a popular hangout (for shopping, food and focal point) of the Malay-Muslim community in Singapore. This was due to the colonial idealogy of segregation of the different ethnic groups by Sir Stamford Raffles and it still prevails up to today (well at least for the the commercialism aspects of the festive season)

For the Chinese, there's Chinatown...the Indian...Little India at Serangoon and the rest....well, there's Orchard Road!

Since the Hari Raya celebration will be around the corner, naturally almost every Muslims in Singapore will be there to get the best festive goodies (cakes, cookies, clothes, housing accessories, other stuff...you get my drift).

It will be alittle bit nostalgic for me though, even I don't really fancy the idea of being crushed with someone's sweat from huge crowds, warm weather and humidity.

This is because Geylang Serai will change for good.

The government has decided to 'renovate and refurbished' the area to make it more 'relevant' and 'refreshing' for all. Just like anything else here...the idea of re-learning, re-training, upgrading....change is the only constant here....

So, goodbye the old, dirty and worn out Geylang Serai...you will be missed.

But one thing remains for sure...I will always bump into someone I know when I'm there during. Just now, it was my good childhood friend with his family...and boy, his little son is really cute ever since the first time I saw him when he was only a day old....

I guess...in every ending of an era, there is always a new beginning...unlike Matrix Revolution (which was the opposite )

:: lost blood, recovered energy ::

Had the annual medical check up today, 3 test-tube size blood was drawn within 30 seconds! I didn't know that taking my blood was such a breeze...it was unbelievable speed as the vacuum test-tubes did its job of sucking every tiny drops of deep-crimson blood.

suprisingly, i felt energised today...despite being without food and water for 14 hours due to fasting. productive day too at work, but then again, today's time was spend a lot of meetings....

it was good to return to hq ever since my return from Kansai, Japan...but then again, looking at the holiday photos ... holiday blues linger once more

katagana alphabets of the day : ¶ (ka) · (ki) ¸ (ku) ¹ (ke) º (ko) , take note that 'ke' has longer strokes than 'ku' even though they looked alike

:: cathay oh! cathay ::

:: the-once grand old dame ::
i chanced across this fabulous website (http://www.getforme.com/whatsgone_places_CathayBuilding.htm) about old things that have disappeared from the sight (and mind?) of the sunny island of ours Singapore.

and then, i remembered the good old Cathay Cinema. I had some vivid collections of the cinema, the movies that i watched, the people that i went with, the snacks that came along with the movies, the waiting for late-comers, the love met and lost there....

so, during lunch, i decided to take a look about what happened to this place? using my palm zire 71, i took the pics shown (the after pic that is...)

and before we finally said goodbye to cathay, here are some things that you must know :

- the first picture to be screened at the Cathay Cinema when it opened on October 3, 1939, was The Four Feathers.

- cathay was the first cinema to reopen after the war; it opened on Sunday, September 23, 1945, with a grand film titled Desert Victory.

- the 17th-storey building was the tallest building in South-east Asia when it was completed in October 1939.

- upon completion, it was also the tallest building on the island (over 83 m high) and the first public air-conditioned place in Singapore.

:: it had its grandest and proudest moments...just like all of us in our lifetime ::

:: the good, the bad & the ugly ::

:: the skid marks ::
the good -> @ Suntec City, shopping for a friend's birthday tonite, going to meet few friends for a nice buffet dinner at Park Royal Plaza Hotel. had good food, conversations and company....

the bad -> heavy rainstorms in town and elsewhere, driving was difficult and tiring.

the ugly -> some mother**#@ accidentally bumped into my car when he was reversing (i guess, as he/she is too coward to leave a note of at least an apology). must been blind or careless. of course I was upset, but then again...after singing in the rain (in the car actually), i felt better and less bitter about the whole episode. now, what i need to think about is where to find a good car workshop and all the inconveniences i have to endure while waiting for it to be fixed....guess that my short get-away-trip in KL will have to wait as this fix will take away some $$ from my budget

:: sat nite party ::

A friend invited for a party at Pan Pacific Hotel tonight, nothing much, couple of guys having drinks and talk.

Not eventful, but it turned out that someone's birthday too...oh well...can't blame a boy for forgetting to get a birthday gift.

Tomorrow night, another birthday dinner...hmm....towards the end of the year, another year will pass and everyone will get older again...

Cheers!

:: comme ca? ::

:: my work desk ::
I am looking on my desk for some ideas when my stationery case caught my attention.....comme ca?

Honestly, I don't know what it means other than a fashion brand that is BIG in Japan. I bought it 2 weeks ago in Osaka and am having post-holidays blues.... So, I thought, what would better than just begin with my long-overdue blog...

I hope it will last as I am not the sort of person who updates daily stuff and events. But I am trying ...for the sake of my friends, especially those in Japan...who I hope to keep in touch in longest time, via the web, at least....
